December 10th, 2025. Kwangwoon University (President Yoon Do-young) was selected
as an Outstanding University in Educational Capacity (General University
category) at the “2025 Korea University Newspaper University Awards” ceremony
held on Friday, December 5, at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.
In response to paradigm shifts in
education driven by artificial intelligence (AI), Kwangwoon University has been
accelerating the cultivation of next-generation talent in innovative industries
by establishing a new AI master’s program and semiconductor-related majors.
Last month, the university held the
Opening Ceremony of the Kwangwoon University Semiconductor Specialized
University Project Group and the Kwangwoon Semiconductor Symposium 2025,
officially launching its semiconductor specialization initiative. The
Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project is a flagship
government-led talent development program designed to address industry demand
for semiconductor professionals. Through this initiative, Kwangwoon University
plans to provide specialized education covering the entire design process by
adding two interdisciplinary majors—AI semiconductors and system
semiconductors—in addition to its existing core major centered on the
Department of Semiconductor Systems Engineering.
Kwangwoon University also announced plans
to establish the Department of AI Media Solutions for Small and Medium
Enterprises (SMEs), targeting employees of SMEs. This department will be
operated as a master’s program within the general graduate school starting in
the 2026 academic year, as part of the SME Contract-Based Department
Establishment and Operation Project overseen by the Ministry of SMEs and
Startups. The curriculum will focus on strengthening practical competencies
essential in the era of digital transformation, including AI and data
analytics.
Kwangwoon University’s emphasis on
practice-oriented talent development has also produced tangible results. The
Kwangwoon University W-IPP Joint Training Center received the highest grade (S,
Excellent)—the only university in the Seoul region to do so—in the 2024 IPP
Work–Study Dual System Joint Training Center Performance Evaluation conducted
by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and HRD Korea. The program involved 22
participating companies and 40 students, achieving perfect scores across key
indicators such as learning-worker goal achievement rate, training retention
rate, new and high-quality company participation rate, and improvement in
external evaluation results.
At the awards ceremony, President Yoon Do-young stated, “This achievement is the result of the dedicated efforts of our faculty and staff, who have steadfastly pursued student-centered educational innovation amid a rapidly changing educational environment, as well as of our students, who have never stopped challenging themselves.
He also added, “Moving forward, Kwangwoon University will continue to set new standards in education by advancing AX-based interdisciplinary education and building student experience–centered educational innovation.”
