February 23rd, 2026. Kwangwoon University’s Semiconductor Specialized Education Project (Director: Professor Shin Hyun-chul) participated in the International Conference on Semiconductors (ICOS) 2026, held in Da Nang, Vietnam, from January 4 to January 8. Approximately 20 students from the program—including both undergraduate and graduate students—attended the conference to strengthen their global research capabilities and engage in international academic exchange.
ICOS 2026 was jointly organized by the Institute of Semiconductor Engineers and the Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) under the University of Da Nang. The conference brought together researchers from around the world to discuss the latest technological advancements and future directions in semiconductor engineering.
During the conference, students attended keynote lectures by leading scholars in semiconductor engineering, as well as tutorials, oral presentations, and poster sessions covering cutting-edge topics such as next-generation semiconductor devices, intelligent circuit design, and advanced packaging processes. Notably, undergraduate students presented their own poster papers at the international conference, gaining valuable experience in delivering research presentations that meet global academic standards and participating in scholarly discussions with international researchers.
A special session dedicated to Kwangwoon University was also held during the conference. Professor Kim Jong-heon (Department of Semiconductor Systems Engineering, Former President of Kwangwoon University) shared insights from his career and research experience as a semiconductor engineer, offering practical advice and mentorship to students, which was met with enthusiastic engagement.
In addition, student Lim Ju-hyung (2nd year, Department of Semiconductor Systems Engineering; co-author Park Chan-woo, 4th year, Department of Electronic Engineering; Advisor: Professor Jang Jae-eun) received the Best Poster Award for a paper proposing innovative ideas applicable to real-world chip design.
Professor Shin Hyun-chul, Dean of the Graduate School and Director of the Semiconductor Specialized Education Project, stated:
“Our participation in ICOS 2026 was designed to provide students with direct experience in presenting and communicating research on the international academic stage, helping them develop global perspectives and practical competencies. We will continue to strengthen the integration of education and research to cultivate semiconductor professionals who can compete globally.”
