March 9, 2026. Kwangwoon University received the honor of winning the K-Edu category at the ‘2026 K-Brand Awards’, hosted by TV Chosun, held on February 25 at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
This award recognizes Kwangwoon University’s “Kwangwoon-style AX (AI Transformation)” strategy, which has been appraised as a new model for innovation in higher education.
The AX strategy proposed by Kwangwoon goes beyond simple Digital Transformation (DX). It represents an advanced strategy in which artificial intelligence fundamentally restructures industrial and social systems. The university has been highly praised for applying AI-based innovation structures across university operations, education systems, and research ecosystems, thereby contributing to strengthening the nation’s technological competitiveness.
This strategy has already produced clear results. Kwangwoon University ranked 8th nationwide in the professor research category of domestic university evaluations, and 1st in Korea for both the citation index per international journal article and the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI). In addition, 18 professors were included in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list announced by Stanford University and Elsevier, and the university ranked 6th in Korea in the 2025 Leiden Ranking, demonstrating its global research competitiveness.
Kwangwoon University is also accelerating AX-based innovation in education. Through major national projects such as
◈ HUSS (Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Talent Development Project)
◈ RISE (Regional Innovation System & Education)
◈ Semiconductor Specialized University Program
The university is advancing a system for cultivating AI-convergence talent. By promoting interdisciplinary education that bridges engineering and humanities/social sciences, creating innovation platforms that connect regional communities with industry, and providing AI-based system semiconductor training, the university continues to produce practical talent needed for future industries.
President Yoon Do-young stated,
“This award is meaningful as it recognizes both the direction and achievements of Kwangwoon University’s AX strategy. We will continue to innovate across education, research, and industry-academic cooperation centered on AI, and position Kwangwoon University as a leading institution driving Korea’s future industrial and technological competitiveness.”
