"Breaking Down Language Barriers in the Classroom"
Kwangwoon University Introduces 'PolyNX,' an AI-Powered Real-Time Multilingual Subtitle System
- From “Listening” to “Understanding while Listening”
: A Paradigm Shift in Higher Education Driven by Generative AI -

Kwangwoon University (President Do-young Yoon) is embarking on a full-scale global educational innovation driven by AI and AX (AI Transformation) with the introduction of 'PolyNX,' a generative AI-based real-time multilingual subtitle system.
This groundbreaking system is the culmination of a two-year collaborative effort between Kwangwoon University’s AI Industry Research Center (Director Il-jae Lee, Professor of English Language and Literature) and DMTLabs (CEO Woon Kim, Adjunct Professor of English Language and Literature), a company recognized as an excellent AI data utilization enterprise in 2025.
Through PolyNX, the instructor's spoken lectures are instantly refined into logical text by generative AI and converted into multilingual subtitles, which are immediately displayed on the lecture screen. As Kwangwoon approaches its centennial, this initiative aims to implement real-time multilingual subtitles in all lectures, taking a significant step forward in establishing the university as a global educational hub powered by AI and AX.
With the integration of PolyNX, instructors can deliver lectures freely in their preferred language, while international students can view subtitles in the language of their choice via their personal smart devices. Future updates will enhance the system further by adding audio translation features and automated lecture summaries post-class.

Moreover, PolyNX is expected to serve as essential infrastructure that fundamentally resolves language barriers in various academic settings, including supporting international students, hosting guest lectures by global scholars, and facilitating joint classes and academic exchange programs with overseas universities.
The stable deployment and operation of PolyNX have been spearheaded by the Remote Education Support Center under the Institute of Educational Innovation (Director Hee-sang Son). The center has successfully installed the AI-based real-time multilingual translation program in approximately 120 classrooms across the campus. By proactively checking for potential technical issues and establishing a continuous support system, the center ensures a seamless teaching and learning environment, significantly contributing to the advancement of the university's digital educational infrastructure.
CEO Woon Kim of DMTLabs (Adjunct Professor) remarked:
"It is deeply meaningful to bring the PolyNX real-time subtitle system to the practical application stage through our collaboration with Kwangwoon University. Having focused on real-time interpretation technology for a long time, we believe this achievement will set a new standard tailored to higher education. We will continue to refine the system to more precisely reflect the specific characteristics of different instructors and courses."
President Do-young Yoon emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative:
"The introduction of PolyNX goes beyond using AI as a mere supplementary tool; it is a prime example of AX that innovates the educational environment itself. This is the result of connecting Kwangwoon’s core strength in engineering with practical capabilities. It will serve as an essential platform to propel our university's globalization efforts more boldly, acting as a catalyst for a paradigm shift in university education."
The deployment of the generative AI-based PolyNX is widely evaluated not just as a technological application, but as a pioneering attempt to shift the educational paradigm. By creating a classroom environment capable of real-time multilingual communication, Kwangwoon University is poised to strengthen its global educational competitiveness and drive its AI and AX-based internationalization initiatives. Notably, this achievement, built on the university’s strong foundation in software engineering, is drawing attention as an innovative educational model that points the way forward for higher education.
