Kwangwoon University–Changzhou Meeting

 

Kwangwoon University (President: Yoon Do-young) held a meeting with a delegation of public officials from Changzhou at Hwado Hall on May 6 to discuss ways to expand exchanges and strengthen industry-academia cooperation between the two institutions.

This visit was arranged to explore the potential for educational and industrial cooperation between the two sides and to discuss plans for expanding future exchanges. The six-member delegation from Changzhou included Li Desen, District Mayor of Zhonglou District, along with officials from the Economic Development Zone, investment agencies, and related companies.

 

Representing Kwangwoon University were Chairwoman Cho Sun-young of the Kwangwoon Foundation, President Yoon Do-young, Executive Vice President for External Affairs Jung Seok-jae, as well as professors from the College of Engineering and other related fields. The university introduced its educational and research capabilities as well as the current status of its industry-academia cooperation initiatives. In particular, the university highlighted its strengths in major engineering fields such as AI, semiconductors, robotics, and electronics, along with its industry-linked education system. 

 

The university also presented its future campus master plan in connection with regional developments, including the opening of the GTX transportation network and development projects in northeastern Seoul. In addition, the university shared its vision for future growth based on the redevelopment of the Kwangwoon University Station area and discussed plans for a campus model that integrates the local community, industry, and academia.

 

During the presentation, the Changzhou delegation introduced the city’s industrial structure and urban development strategy, focusing on sectors such as renewable energy, advanced equipment manufacturing, next-generation information and communication technology, automobiles, and artificial intelligence. The delegation also shared its talent development system and industry-academia cooperation models that connect education with industry, expressing strong expectations for future collaboration with Kwangwoon University.

Chinese international students currently studying at Kwangwoon University also participated in the event, sharing their academic and campus life experiences. Moon Ju-mun, a student in the integrated master’s and doctoral program in the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Hu Biyang, a senior student in the Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering, introduced the university’s research environment, scholarship programs, and support system for international students. They also expressed their hopes for expanded educational exchange between Korea and China.

 

Cho Sun-young, Chairwoman of the Kwangwoon Foundation stated “Northeastern Seoul, where Kwangwoon University is located, is expected to undergo significant changes in the near future, driven by the opening of the GTX transportation network and the establishment of advanced industrial infrastructure.” She added, “I hope this meeting will serve as the starting point for meaningful cooperation through which Kwangwoon University and Changzhou can grow together in the fields of industry and education.

President Yoon Do-young stated, “Kwangwoon University specializes in robotics, semiconductors, and electronic engineering, and we expect to develop practical cooperation models in connection with Changzhou’s diverse industrial foundation.” He further added, “I hope the exchanges between our two institutions will lead to cooperation that contributes to regional and national development.”

Following this visit, Kwangwoon University plans to strengthen its international exchange network with Changzhou, China, and expand the foundation for practical industry-academia cooperation, particularly in the fields of engineering and industry.
