The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB), founded in 1984, is a leading academic organization in the bio-sector with approximately 13,000 members across academia, research institutes, and industry.

This year’s symposium, held under the theme "AI STAR (AI Integrated Sustainable Transformations for Advanced Robust Biotechnology)," featured 761 latest research presentations and 456 poster sessions.

Su-yeon Lee presented her research titled “Dieckol Recovery from Ecklonia cava via Microwave-Assisted Extraction” in the field of Microbial and Bioprocess Engineering. Her work was selected as an outstanding study, ranking in the top 5% of the poster presentation category.

The study was highly recognized for proposing an efficient process strategy to recover antioxidants from brown algae biomass and demonstrating the potential for the industrial application of functional substances.

Reflecting on the achievement, Su-yeon Lee stated:

"It was fascinating to explore various process conditions for the efficient recovery of antioxidants from brown algae. I found it incredibly rewarding to introduce our findings at such a prestigious symposium. I will continue to develop this research to achieve further meaningful results."

Professor Chulhwan Park, who supervised the research, added:

"It is deeply rewarding to watch students grow with such passion through their research. I hope they continue their steady efforts to become the talent that leads the era of biotechnology."

Su-yeon Lee has demonstrated consistent academic excellence since her undergraduate years. She previously won the Excellence Award at the 18th College of Engineering Academic Festival (2023) and an Encouragement Award at the 2024 MY (Multi-Y) Capstone Design Competition. Additionally, she received the Excellence Award (from the Chairperson of WISET and the President of KSBB) in the 2024 WISET Engineering Research Team Support Program for Female Graduate Students.

Professor Chulhwan Park continues to be a prolific researcher with 289 SCI(E) papers, 57 domestic journals, 55 registered patents, and 411 conference presentations. His impactful work has garnered over 12,470 citations (h-index: 54, i10-index: 232). He is currently serving as the Secretary General of the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB).
