Kwangwoon University and Korea Military Academy Sign MOU to Foster Talent and Strengthen R&D in Defense and Advanced Science

Kwangwoon University (President Do-young Yoon) and the Korea Military Academy (Superintendent Hoo-sung Park) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Monday, April 13, at Kwangwoon University’s Hwado Hall. The agreement aims to nurture specialized talent in defense and advanced science and technology while strengthening collaborative research.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both institutions, including Sun-young Chosun, Chairperson of the Kwangwoon Foundation; Do-young Yoon, President of Kwangwoon University; Seok-jae Jeong, Vice President for External Affairs; and Hoo-sung Park, Superintendent of the Korea Military Academy.

 

Under this agreement, Kwangwoon University and the Korea Military Academy will cooperate in the following key areas:

 

 ▲ Talent Cultivation: Joint educational programs to foster experts in defense and advanced science.

 ▲​ Joint R&D: Collaborative research in cutting-edge defense technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors, robotics, information security, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

 ▲ Academic Exchange: Development and operation of undergraduate curricula, mutual credit recognition, and exchanges between faculty and cadets/students.

 ▲ Knowledge Sharing: Joint hosting of academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.

 ▲​ Policy Research: Discovery of collaborative projects related to national strategic technologies and defense innovation.

 

Kwangwoon University plans to leverage its long-standing expertise in education and research within high-tech sectors to expand its practical cooperation with the defense industry. The partnership is expected to contribute significantly to national competitiveness by fostering "convergence-type" talent capable of adapting to the rapidly changing future defense environment.

 

Sun-young Chosun, Chairperson of the Kwangwoon Foundation, remarked, "The history of Kwangwoon, which began with wireless communication education, has always been aligned with the development of communication technology in the defense sector. I hope this agreement leads to practical cooperation that secures national security and nurtures the future leaders of our self-reliant defense."

 

President Do-young Yoon added, "This MOU is a meaningful starting point for both institutions to jointly raise the talent that will lead future defense and contribute to the advancement of national strategic technologies. We look forward to creating tangible results in advanced defense technology through this close partnership."

 

Superintendent Hoo-sung Park of the Korea Military Academy stated, "This agreement is a significant step for the military and academia to prepare for technology-based defense innovation together. By utilizing the excellent educational and research capabilities of both institutions, we will expand practical exchanges to foster creative talent and strengthen national security."
