Kwangwoon University (President Yoon Do-young) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) on March 31 (Tue) at Hwado Hall, Kwangwoon University, to strengthen research collaboration and industry-academia cooperation in the fields of future energy and advanced industrial innovation.

Through this agreement, the two universities agreed to go beyond simple exchanges and establish a practical joint research cooperation system in response to the national energy transition and industrial advancement. In particular, they laid the foundation for proactively co-planning large-scale national strategic R&D projects and linking them to actual research execution and industry-academia collaboration.

Kwangwoon University and KENTECH will actively promote joint research in key future technology areas such as artificial sun (nuclear fusion), hydrogen energy, power semiconductors, and AI-based power systems. Moving forward, both institutions plan to expand collaboration in identifying large-scale R&D projects and strengthening industry-linked partnerships based on their respective research capabilities.

Specifically, they will pursue:

▲ Joint planning and participation in R&D projects in the artificial sun (fusion) field

▲ Research cooperation in hydrogen energy

▲ Development of optimization technologies for power semiconductors and AI-based power systems

▲ Expansion of industry-academia collaboration in other advanced industries

With this agreement as a starting point, the two universities will accelerate the establishment of an integrated cooperation system that connects research and development, talent cultivation, and industry-academia collaboration. It is expected that joint discovery and execution of large-scale national R&D projects will further enhance research synergy between the institutions.

President Yoon Do-young of Kwangwoon University stated, “In advanced industries, collaboration that connects different capabilities to create new possibilities is becoming increasingly important. Kwangwoon University will work with KENTECH to proactively identify large-scale R&D projects in national strategic technology fields and expand cooperation so that research outcomes can lead to industrial innovation and talent development.”

Acting President Park Jin-ho of KENTECH said, “Kwangwoon University’s accumulated research strength and educational competitiveness in engineering will be a key asset for cooperation in future strategic technologies. Together with Kwangwoon University, we will take the lead in planning major R&D projects in areas such as artificial sun and hydrogen, which will shape the nation’s future, and demonstrate tangible research outcomes for the energy transition.”
