Professor Jung Dong-hoon’s research team from the School of Media and Communication has won the Top Overall Paper Award (Game Studies Division) at the National Communication Association’s 111th Annual Convention (NCA), one of the most prestigious academic conferences in the field of communication.

NCA is one of the leading communication scholarly associations in the United States. Founded in 1914, it has a history spanning more than a century. The 2025 convention brought together around 4,000 researchers and professionals. The conference was held last November at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Colorado, under the theme “Communicate to Elevate”

The award-winning paper is titled “Diegetic Interfaces in VR: Elevating User Interaction within the Technology Acceptance Model.” The first author is Professor Stephen W. Song of the University of South Florida, who previously served as a postdoctoral researcher at Kwangwoon University. Kang Jeong-hyun, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Metaverse Convergence at Kwangwoon University’s Graduate School, participated as a co-author.

The paper experimentally examined differences in user enjoyment in virtual reality environments, offering important implications for the design of VR interfaces.

This award is another international recognition of the team’s outstanding research capabilities in the fields of VR, the metaverse, and interface design. It is especially meaningful in that the achievement was made jointly by a professor who came through the same lab and a researcher who is currently enrolled, highlighting Kwangwoon University’s global research competitiveness.
