January 26th, 2026. Kwangwoon University’s Global Coexistence Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Talent Development Project Group (HUSS), led by Director Lee Hye-young, implemented a practice-based convergence education model through a global field training program linked to academic coursework. From January 6 to January 12, the project group conducted the Global Mobility and Sustainable Solutions Program in Japan, a six-night, seven-day initiative designed to evaluate the educational effectiveness of the program.

The program was organized as part of the HUSS internationalization initiative and focused on addressing global challenges such as urban concentration and regional decline. Centered on the concept of mobility, the initiative aimed to strengthen students’ practical competencies in contributing to regional sustainability through hands-on convergence education.

The HUSS Project Group jointly developed and operated the course Global Mobility and Sustainability in collaboration with Ryutsu Keizai University, Nippon Express, ONDO Holdings, and Yamato Holdings. The field program was conducted as a curriculum-linked and extracurricular initiative, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge acquired in class to real-world overseas industrial and regional settings.

As part of the program, students visited the headquarters of Senko Holdings and the Kuroneko Logistics Gate operated by Yamato Holdings, where they examined advanced logistics systems, regional linkage strategies, and ESG management practices.

A four-day, three-night team-based project was also carried out in Yokozemachi, Saitama Prefecture, and the Buko Onsen area in cooperation with ONDO Holdings. Based on field research, students analyzed local tourism resources and developed team-based proposals for regional revitalization. The projects emphasized problem analysis and solution development by linking local community cases with industrial sites.

During the final presentation, one team received the Gold Prize in recognition of its feasibility and clarity of target setting. Yokozemachi Mayor Yoshinari Tomita, who presented the awards, stated that many of the proposals demonstrated practical applicability to the local community and expressed hope for continued exchange with the participating students.

Director Lee Hye-young noted that the program represents an advanced stage of practice-based education that directly connects classroom theory with regional and industrial contexts. She added that the initiative is intended to foster convergence talents capable of analyzing global structural challenges through the lenses of mobility and sustainability and designing solutions that support coexistence with local communities.
